Apartment Gardening Tips
Most folks who live in apartments have probably decided that it wouldn’t be practical to try to have any type of garden. There are people who dislike not being able to have a garden so much that they move out of their apartment into a home that gives them a place to put an outdoors garden. Other folks simply limit themselves to purchasing a couple of houseplants to hide their disappointment.
Well, the good news is that it is very doable to have a great garden even in a small apartment. We’ll teach you some tips that will help you in this article!
If the kinds of plants you grow aren’t your main concern, pick plants that go with the containers you already have. Pay attention to the size of the plants as each one will have a specific size requirement for its container – from 1/2 wine barrels to antique tea cups. By deciding on the containers and pots first, you can control the unique effect your garden will present. What’s the point of only buying big pots when you can grow a smaller plant or flower that is just as attractive?
Do some research and you will learn all you need to know about which plants to use and how to pot them. Don’t go out and buy a bunch of costly, exotic containers for your plants. The type, or cost, of the containers you buy aren’t what’s important, and you already have enough day to day expenses to deal with. Just about any container will work. You can almost always find containers at discounted prices. Check out places like Goodwill or Salvation Army. Even the Dollar Stores have nice containers. Save your money for important things like special plants, or buy organic seeds and high-quality potting soil.
Many gardeners who live in cramped spaces turn to community gardens so they can have the joy of planting their own plot. Many of these operate on a time share or monthly fee. This is a wonderful option because you have the pleasure of growing your own garden and you don’t have to find spaces in your apartment to do so. You might think – at first glance – that using your indoors spaces for a garden is the best option, but when your garden starts to take over your living quarters, you may wish you had opted for a community plot.
You are only limited by your imagination when it comes to having an apartment garden, no matter how limited your space is.
The secret to success is to not be shy about asking for advice, and to let your creative imagination run free. Find sources online, or books at your bookstore, and learn what you can about container garden in a small space. And don’t forget those knowledgeable folks down at your local nursery. They love to help people. You may become overwhelmed with all of the helpful advice coming your way! Before too long, your apartment will be beautiful with your unique garden.
